Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor John Barorot has resigned.
Barorot made the announcement during a meeting with senior county staff at the Eka Hotel in Eldoret, where Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii was also present. An official statement is expected to be released soon at the Uasin Gishu County headquarters.
His resignation comes just a week after he dismissed claims that he had left office. Speculation arose after Barorot was notably absent from President William Ruto’s event to confer City status to Eldoret, leading to questions about his whereabouts.
In an interview with The Star, Barorot labeled the resignation rumors as baseless but did not provide a reason for his absence from the significant event.
There have been ongoing rumors about his working relationship with Governor Bii. However, two weeks ago, during a prayer meeting at the county headquarters, Governor Bii mentioned that Barorot was on leave.
“Apologies for not mentioning earlier, but our Deputy Governor, Engineer Barorot, is currently on leave. However, we remain aligned in all matters,” said Bii.
Barorot missed almost all preparations for Eldoret’s elevation to City status, except for one event where he commended the media’s role in branding and promoting the new city.
Known for his reserved nature and simple lifestyle, Barorot often drives himself around town. Initially, Bii and Barorot were closely aligned, frequently attending functions together.
