The Tanzanian High Court has ordered Bongo Flava star Rajabu Abdukahali Ibrahim, better known as Harmonize, to pay CRDB Bank Tsh113,185,755.16 (Ksh5.4 million) after he defaulted on a loan. In Commercial Case No 151/2023, the judge ruled in favor of the bank after Harmonize repeatedly failed to appear in court and did not submit his defense statements.
According to court documents, the judgment, overseen by Judge Cleophas K Morris, was based on uncontested evidence. The court ordered Harmonize to pay the bank Tsh103,185,755.16 and 18% interest per year on the outstanding amount from the date of default to the judgment date. Additionally, Harmonize must pay 7% interest on the total amount from the judgment date until full payment and Tsh10,000,000 in general damages.
The case stems from a loan agreement made on October 10, 2019, when CRDB Bank provided Harmonize with two credit facilities totaling Tsh300 million (Ksh14.2 million) to finance his music equipment, production studio, and promotion. Harmonize was supposed to repay the loans in equal monthly installments over three years, but he failed to comply with the terms.
Despite initial payments, Harmonize defaulted on the loans and requested a reduction in his monthly installments, which the bank granted. However, he defaulted again, leading to the lawsuit filed on December 6, 2023. Multiple court summonses were issued, but Harmonize failed to respond, resulting in the default judgment against him.
