Two individuals were arrested in Mombasa with bhang worth Sh13 million.

Police in Mombasa have apprehended two suspected drug traffickers and confiscated bhang valued at Sh13 million.

The arrests occurred during a coordinated operation by detectives from Moi International Airport and the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in the coastal city.

“Following a public tip-off, authorities conducted a stakeout at the Mariakani weighbridge,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated on X.

“Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered sixteen sacks and 226 large sticks of cannabis sativa.”

Further inspection revealed a motor vehicle number plate hidden beneath the driver’s seat, according to DCI.

The suspects and the confiscated drugs were taken to the Moi International Airport Police Station for further investigation.

DCI reported that the recovered substances, weighing 456 kilograms, were confirmed by the government chemist to be cannabis sativa.

“The suspects are being lawfully detained for processing before their court appearance, while the seized drugs and vehicle are held as evidence. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations remains committed to combating narcotics trafficking in the country.”
