Faith Kipyegon, the Team Kenya Captain at the Paris Olympics, has highlighted their commendable performance at the highly competitive games.
Addressing the media at Eldoret State Lodge, where President William Ruto hosted the team for breakfast, Kipyegon expressed pride in their efforts, acknowledging the intense competition in Paris and their wholehearted participation.
She extended her gratitude to the government for its support and to the fans for their unwavering encouragement throughout the games.
“As the team captain, I can confidently say that we gave our best despite the stiff competition. I’m thankful for the opportunity to lead the team in Paris,” Kipyegon remarked.
“We deeply appreciate the support from the government, the Ministry, Athletics Kenya, and our global fans,” she added.
Team Kenya achieved remarkable success, securing a total of 11 medals—4 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze—during the Olympics.
The team arrived back in the country on Tuesday night. Thursday morning was marked by joy and celebration as Team Kenya landed at Eldoret Airport.
Local leaders, including Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wesley Rotich, and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, were present to welcome the athletes. The homecoming was filled with dancing and admiration for the medals earned in Paris.
The athletes celebrated included Triple Olympic 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon, double gold medallist Beatrice Chebet, 800m runner Koitatoi Kidali, 800m gold medallist Emmanuel Wanyonyi, marathon bronze medallist Benson Kipruto, and 5,000m silver medallist Ronald Kwemoi. Two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge was also part of the victorious team.
