Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, alongside Indian High Commissioner Namgya Khampa, participated in planting 3,000 bamboo trees at City Park, Nairobi, on Thursday. This initiative was part of the celebration marking India’s 78th Independence Day.
Forestry PS Gitonga Mugambi accompanied Duale at the event, which was organized by the Earth Keepers Foundation. Other notable attendees included UN Resident Coordinator Stephen Jackson, NEMA Director General Mamo Mamo, and Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko, among other dignitaries.
This tree-planting effort supports the government’s ambitious campaign to plant 15 billion trees over the next decade, aiming to achieve 30% tree cover across the country. The campaign is a critical step toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions, combating deforestation, and promoting environmental restoration.
