Triple Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon has revealed that her daughter serves as her primary motivation. She explained that her daughter plays a significant role in her racing endeavors, as she frequently calls to inquire about her performance, especially when Kipyegon doesn’t win.
“My daughter is a tremendous source of motivation for me. When I don’t finish first, she often asks why I didn’t win. That really drives me to push harder,” Kipyegon shared on X.
These comments followed her return from the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, where Kipyegon narrowly missed out on a gold medal, finishing second and earning silver. Her silver medal win was marred by controversy when she was initially disqualified for allegedly pushing Ethiopian athlete Tsegay Gudaf under Rule TR17.2.2, which addresses jostling or obstruction. However, Team Kenya successfully appealed the disqualification, leading to her reinstatement.
At the Olympic Games, Kipyegon made history by becoming the first athlete to win gold in the women’s 1,500m event three times in a row. She was also one of only two Kenyan athletes to secure at least two medals in Paris, alongside Beatrice Chebet, who won gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m races.
