The Star can exclusively report that Kenyan police officers deployed to the UN security mission in Haiti will be exempt from prosecution for any misconduct. They will also be exempt from paying taxes, with their extensive immunities extending beyond the completion of the mission.
These officers are part of an operation aimed at liberating the Caribbean nation from the control of gangs that have rendered it ungovernable since the assassination of President Jovenel Moise on July 7, 2021.
As outlined in the agreement between Kenya and Haiti, mission personnel and local contractors are guaranteed immunity both during and after the mission.
