A 68-year-old deaf woman was raped and murdered by unknown assailants in Homa Bay.

Police in Homa Bay are investigating the murder of a 68-year-old woman, Wilkister Odanga, who was killed by unknown assailants at her home in Nyagidha village on Monday night. Odanga, who was deaf and mute, was discovered dead in her bed on Tuesday morning by a relative who went to check on her after she failed to wake up.

It is believed the attackers gained entry by cutting through the door. The relative noted that Odanga’s inability to hear or speak left her vulnerable, as she couldn’t call for help during the attack. Marks were found on her face, and it is suspected that she may have been raped.

Nothing was stolen from the house during the attack.

Nyagidha village elder Alice Opiyo reported receiving news of the death at 10 a.m. Opiyo explained that Odanga, a widow, had been living alone since her husband’s death over a decade ago. She urged residents to cooperate with the police as they continue their investigation.

The body has been moved to Homa Bay mortuary for a postmortem.
