West Ham United has signed defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United for £15 million. The 26-year-old has agreed to a seven-year contract with the Hammers.
Wan-Bissaka transferred from Crystal Palace to Manchester United in a £50 million deal in 2019, where he made 190 appearances and scored two goals.
He becomes West Ham’s eighth signing of the summer, joining Jean-Clair Todibo, Crysencio Summerville, Luis Guilherme, Niclas Fullkrug, Wes Foderingham, Max Kilman, and Guido Rodriguez at the London Stadium.
“It was a no-brainer for me to join West Ham—I’m excited and happy to be here,” Wan-Bissaka stated. “I can’t wait to get on the pitch, meet the players, and move forward from there. I see a team that supports one another and has each other’s backs, which is encouraging when surrounded by a strong squad.”
Born in London, Wan-Bissaka expressed that returning to the capital is an “amazing feeling.”
He was signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his tenure as Manchester United manager in 2019 and remained the first-choice defender until Solskjaer’s exit in 2021. Wan-Bissaka lost his regular starting position after Erik ten Hag took over in 2022 but still made 64 appearances under him over the past two seasons.
Manchester United’s pursuit of Bayern Munich full-back Noussair Mazraoui was dependent on Wan-Bissaka’s transfer to West Ham, and they now expect to finalize the signing of the Moroccan international.
West Ham will kick off their 2024-25 Premier League season against Aston Villa on August 17, while Manchester United will host Fulham on August 16.
