The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party’s National Executive Committee has revoked Cleophas Malala’s appointment as Secretary General.
In a statement issued after a Friday morning meeting, the Committee announced that Vice Chairperson Hassan Omar will now serve as the interim Secretary General.
“The National Executive Committee convened today at the request of its members to discuss, deliberate, and agree on the way forward based on recent events within the Party and the country,” the statement read. The Committee instructed the National Elections Board to make necessary adjustments and continue with the first phase of grassroots elections in the remaining counties. “As a result, the Party will implement various governing and administrative measures to accelerate its agenda and establish a distinctive path of inclusive, participative, and consultative organization,” the statement added.
Earlier, confusion engulfed the UDA party after Chairperson Cecily Mbarire called for a National Executive Council meeting on Friday at the Hustler Plaza.
However, Malala rushed to court seeking interim orders to stop the meeting, insisting that it should be held next Friday instead.
