Willis Austin Chimano has announced a significant new chapter in his career this month with the release of his first single since the split of Sauti Sol. In an Instagram post, Chimano stated:
“Here we go, my new journey begins… I’m incredibly thankful for how far life has taken me. At 37 years old, what a ride it has been! My previous chapter shaped and fulfilled me, but like a finished book, it’s time to turn to a new page.”
He expressed his appreciation for still being able to share his voice—a precious gift he cherishes—with his fans. Chimano is eager to build a community, thrive, and succeed on his own terms.
“Being part of @sautisol was the greatest privilege of my life. Now, I’m starting this exciting journey and can’t wait for what’s ahead. ‘Do You Remember’ is my first single and the beginning of several releases planned for this year. Let’s go! Chimano as a solo artist is a new venture. See you on the 9th of August and beyond.”
In May 2023, Sauti Sol announced an indefinite hiatus from group activities. The band members—Bien-Aime Baraza, Willis Chimano, Polycarp Otieno, and Savara Mudigi—explained:
“While this hiatus marks the conclusion of a specific chapter, it also signifies a new beginning for us. We are excited to explore new creative paths and personal pursuits. Our friendship and shared vision will continue to inspire our future projects.”
They added, “Sauti Sol has been an incredible journey for us as musicians and friends. We are deeply grateful for the love and support we’ve received over the years. As we take this time to follow our individual and collective passions, we remain dedicated to our friendship and shared businesses. The bond between us is unbreakable, and we look forward to what the future brings.”
