Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has expressed his gratitude to Azimio leader Raila Odinga for appointing him as the leader of the Minority side in the National Assembly.
Junet pledged that under his leadership, their movement will achieve victory. He said, “I thank my Party Leader, the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, and @TheODMparty for trusting and nominating me to lead the Minority Coalition in the National Assembly at this crucial time. Our movement will prevail.”
This announcement followed Raila’s decision to appoint Junet as the new leader of the Minority, succeeding Opiyo Wandayi, who has been nominated to head the Energy and Petroleum docket in President William Ruto’s government. Junet, who is currently serving his third term and has been the Minority Whip since the last Parliament, will be taking on this new role.
Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo will take over from Junet as the Minority Whip, a change confirmed during an ODM Central Management Committee meeting chaired by Raila Odinga.
In other changes, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has been appointed as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, replacing nominated MP John Mbadi, who is now set to head the National Treasury. Amisi described his appointment as a sign of the confidence Raila has in him and a win for the people of Saboti Constituency.
Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo has been assigned as the vice chairperson of the Public Investment Committee on Agriculture.
The positions were part of ODM’s negotiated allocations following the 2022 general elections. The party also announced the resignation of its leaders from their previous roles as part of the day-long meeting.
