The Immigration and Citizen Services Department has introduced dedicated Migrant Labour counters to expedite passport applications. This initiative comes in response to President William Ruto’s recent pledge that individuals seeking employment abroad will receive their passports within a week, with the government covering their air travel expenses.
In a notice released on Thursday, the Interior Ministry instructed applicants to submit their documents, including proof of intent from the relevant institution. Additionally, the Directorate of Immigration Services (DIS) has suspended the requirement for appointments to collect passports.
As a result, individuals who previously applied are now advised to collect their passports from the station where they initially submitted their applications. Those wanting to check the status of their applications are encouraged to send a short message with their E-Citizen tracking number to 22222.
The DIS also announced that all uncollected passports will be disposed of six months after July 31 to make room for new applications. Currently, there are 110,059 uncollected passports.
