In a statement, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) announced that June 2024 was particularly successful, with a record tax collection of Sh15.1 billion.
The tax amnesty, a periodic and targeted initiative, focuses on specific groups or activities to address particular issues or achieve certain objectives. The Finance Act of 2023 introduced this program, allowing taxpayers to apply for amnesty on penalties and interest for tax debts incurred up to December 31, 2022.
This initiative followed the repeal of provisions related to the abandonment and waivers of penalties and interest. Under the amnesty program, taxpayers were only required to pay the principal amount of their outstanding tax debts.
