Interior Cabinet Secretary nominee Kithure Kindiki revealed on Thursday that his net worth has increased by Ksh.150 million since his initial appointment as CS in October 2022. During his vetting by Parliament, Kindiki disclosed that his wealth has grown from Ksh.544 million to Ksh.694 million.
Kindiki, who served as Interior CS until President William Ruto dissolved his Cabinet on July 11, attributed the increase to the success of his law firm. He explained, “I have always maintained that I run a business that continues to thrive even if I am not actively practicing law. The revenue from this business has significantly contributed to my increased net worth. It remains active and is managed by others.”
The former law professor and minister defended his integrity during his 21-month tenure, asserting, “I have not gained from any improper business dealings or government tenders, either directly or through proxies, relatives, or others.”
Kindiki is among those nominated by President Ruto to return to the Cabinet following its dissolution in response to nationwide protests against the administration.
At 52, Kindiki brings a wealth of experience with 26 years in legal practice, academia, and politics. Prior to his Cabinet role, he served two terms as the Senator for Tharaka Nithi and taught law at Moi University and the University of Nairobi, where he advanced to associate dean of the law school.
His tenure as security minister was marked by controversy, with criticisms focusing on excessive police force during anti-government protests. Allegations include the use of live ammunition on unarmed protesters, forced arrests, and the abduction of dissenting voices, contributing to over 60 confirmed deaths since the protests began, according to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.
In response, Kindiki has defended the police’s actions and recently stated that the government would address “claims of abductions and enforced disappearances allegedly committed by security personnel” during the demonstrations.
