The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a 7-day weather advisory for heavy rains from July 30 to August 5, affecting various regions.
The forecast indicates that heavy to moderate rains will occur in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, North-western Kenya, and the Coast. The affected counties include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, Nairobi, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, and Nakuru.
Regions like Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot are expected to experience heavy rainfall over the next five days. Daytime will see sunny intervals, while nights may be partly cloudy with occasional afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
The rest of the country is expected to remain generally dry with sunny conditions. Residents in the affected counties should prepare for very cold nights with temperatures dropping below 10°C and high daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C in areas such as Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, and Kwale.
The advisory also mentions that cold and cloudy conditions are anticipated in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the southeastern lowlands, and the Rift Valley.
