Fire burns form one student on sick leave to death in Kiambu

A Form One student at St. Patrick Kitui Secondary School has died after a fire engulfed their home in the Sigona area of Kiambu County. The student, identified as Daniel Onsarigo, was on sick leave and alone in the house when the fire broke out on July 28, according to police and neighbors.

The blaze destroyed four iron-sheet structures, including the one where Onsarigo was sleeping at the time. Authorities reported that he had been unwell and was at home recovering.

Fire engines from Kikuyu responded quickly to the scene, and after controlling the flames, they discovered the deceased’s body. The cause of the fire is still unknown, as stated by Kiambu police chief Michael Muchiri. The body has been taken to Chiromo Mortuary for an autopsy.

In a separate incident, detectives are investigating the unusual death of a man who injured himself in the neck after slipping on a broken bottle in Karabaini village, Kiambu County. This incident was reported to the police on July 28.

The deceased, Didier Njoroge, was reportedly socializing with two others when an argument broke out. Witnesses say Njoroge picked up a drink bottle and crushed it outside the door. As he turned around, he slipped and fell on the shattered glass, resulting in a severe cut on the left side of his neck.

He was rushed to Kiambu Level Five Hospital, where he later died due to excessive bleeding. Police collected the broken bottle as evidence and the body is currently at the hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination. The police stated that the investigation is ongoing and they will take appropriate action as needed.
