Detectives are investigating three separate suicide cases across different regions in the country.
The first case involves a man whose body was discovered in his house in Kibera slums, Nairobi, after a suspected suicide. Robert Mbugua had been missing since July 26, and his body was found three days later in the Soweto area. He was found dead in his rented house, where he lived with a friend. Police noted that the body had blisters upon their arrival. While the exact cause of death is still undetermined, preliminary findings suggest suicide. The body has been transported to the City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
In Ngong Town, the body of an 18-year-old girl, Natalia Manisa Muthoni, was found in her house, having apparently hanged herself with a neck scarf in the living room. The motive behind her actions is still unknown. The police have moved her body to the mortuary, pending an autopsy and further investigations.
In the Kihunguro area of Ruiru, Kiambu County, a 45-year-old man named Albert Amimo was found dead by suicide in his rented house. The police had to break the steel door to enter the house, which was locked from the inside. Amimo’s body was found hanging from the roof with a plastic rope around his neck. No suicide note was found, and the investigation is ongoing. His body has been moved to the mortuary.
The rise in suicide cases has prompted calls for action, as police report up to two cases daily, highlighting a worrying trend.
