In 2019, radio presenter Alex Mwakideu gave up alcohol, a decision many thought was due to his marriage. However, Mwakideu recently disclosed that he was compelled to quit drinking after nearly missing an important event. He had blacked out the night before he was supposed to take Jalang’o to meet his in-laws for an introduction ceremony.
In an interview with Obinna, Mwakideu recounted, “I stopped drinking in 2019. It was during the time we were introducing Jalang’o to his wife’s family. I had consumed a lot of alcohol. I used to monitor my drinking habits by not sharing my alcohol. I wasn’t an excessive drinker.
That day, I overslept and woke up at noon. When I checked our WhatsApp group, everyone was already at the event, dressed appropriately. I hurried to the event because I was supposed to speak on behalf of friends,” Mwakideu explained.
Following the event, he decided to quit drinking. “Everyone brought out their alcohol. I took out mine, looked at it, and declared I was done with alcohol. From that moment on, I decided to stop drinking,” he said.
He clarified that his decision wasn’t due to job loss or marital issues. “I wasn’t fired, and my marriage was fine. It was simply a personal decision,” he noted.
Nowadays, Mwakideu enjoys smoking cigars. “Smoking cigars is a lifestyle. There are different cigars for whiskey, wine, and coffee. I prefer the coffee cigar because I love coffee,” he added.
