On Monday, President William Ruto underscored the need for political leaders to unite in addressing the challenges facing Kenyans. Speaking in Tana River during the final leg of his coastal region tour, Ruto urged politicians to move beyond popularity contests and focus on serving their constituents.
Despite their different political affiliations, Ruto emphasized the importance of prioritizing the country’s interests over personal gains, advocating for unity and collaboration to advance the nation’s development agenda. “We must always place the unity of our country and the welfare of Kenyans above our own interests as leaders,” he stated.
The President made these remarks while inaugurating the Pwani School for the Mentally Challenged Tuition Block and laying the foundation for the Nyali Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) center in Nyali, Mombasa County.
Additionally, Ruto announced plans to expand irrigation efforts in arid and semi-arid regions to combat food insecurity. He revealed that Sh450 million has been allocated to the Bura and Tana Delta irrigation projects to enhance food production. “We are committed to producing sufficient food and eradicating hunger in our country,” he declared.
Earlier, Ruto visited Ngao Secondary School in Garsen and disclosed that Sh400 million will be allocated to connect 6,000 households to electricity under the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Programme.
Acknowledging the flood risks in Tana River during the rainy season, Ruto also announced that affected residents would be relocated to safer areas. Moreover, the government plans to build four markets in the county at a cost of Sh250 million to improve conditions for small-scale traders, including vendors and boda boda operators.
The President was joined by Governor Dhadho Godhana, several MPs, and MCAs during his visit.
