Kabras RFC coach Felix Ayange emphasized that they won’t let their victory in the Christie Sevens on Sunday distract them. Kabras secured a 17-12 win against Kenya Harlequins in the final, and Ayange stressed the importance of maintaining the teamwork demonstrated during the tournament in the upcoming legs.
“Every stakeholder contributed significantly before and during the event, and I believe we can continue to implement the same teamwork strategy moving forward,” Ayange stated.
Despite the triumph, he noted that there are areas needing improvement as they prepare for the second leg of the circuit—the Ingo Sevens.
“We won’t be complacent after this victory; we recognize that there’s still a long way to go in the circuit. We must remain focused and take it one game at a time,” Ayange added.
The Kakamega Ingo Sevens is scheduled for August 2-3, and Ayange is aiming for back-to-back victories. “This is our home circuit, which brings its own pressure to succeed, but as I mentioned earlier, we must avoid overconfidence and take each game step by step.”
Meanwhile, Kenya Harlequins coach Paul Murunga expressed confidence in his team’s ability to win the National Circuit after reaching the finals of the Christie Sevens.
Reflecting on the match, Murunga stated that his team performed well but acknowledged that the better team won. “It was a challenging match, and the boys played admirably. At one point, the score was tied at 12-12, but they managed to score again and take the win. It could have gone either way,” he explained.
“This is just the first tournament of the circuit. The team is well-prepared and ready for the entire season. We hope to win several legs and ultimately secure the overall title,” Murunga declared.
Harlequins player Leon Oduor echoed his coach’s sentiments, stating that the team’s goal is to reach all finals. “Our target is to make it to the finals. We aim to reach every final and hopefully win a few titles along the way,” Oduor reiterated.
Oduor identified Kabras as their main competitors but promised to make a strong statement when they face off in Kakamega. “Kabras always seem to have luck on their side, often slipping past us in the finals, but we know what we need to do. As we head to Kakamega, we’ll put on a show,” Oduor warned.
