Russia and Iran to continue cooperation with new Iranian government

During the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St. Petersburg on July 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf met to discuss bilateral relations. The meeting, attended by the speakers of both chambers of the Russian parliament, highlighted Iran’s new role as a member of the BRICS group.

Putin expressed Russia’s pleasure at Iran’s full integration into the BRICS bloc and paid tribute to the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who recently passed away in a plane crash. Putin voiced hope that the strong relationship between Russia and Iran, established under Raisi, would continue.

Ghalibaf emphasized Iran’s commitment to enhancing cooperation in various fields, stating that their joint efforts would benefit the region’s economy and counter Western unilateralism. The forum is set to conclude on July 12.
