Former Germany and Bayern Munich defender Jérôme Boateng was convicted on Friday, July 19, of causing bodily harm to his former partner. The court sentenced him to a suspended fine of 200,000 euros ($220,000) with the condition that the amount is payable if he commits another offense. Additionally, Boateng must donate 50,000 euros ($55,000) each to two children’s charities.
Judge Susanne Hemmerich, overseeing the retrial, emphasized the impact on Boateng’s children, who have been indirectly affected by the case. She halted the initial proceedings to protect their privacy.
Boateng’s legal troubles began in 2019, with allegations stemming from a July 2018 incident in the Turks and Caicos Islands. He was initially found guilty in September 2021, but the conviction was overturned due to procedural errors. The case was retried, leading to the current sentence.
Boateng also faced accusations from another former partner, Kasia Lenhardt, although these were closed in 2020 and reopened only after Lenhardt’s death in February 2021. Boateng, who has denied all charges, recently joined Austrian team Linz after a distinguished career with Germany.
