On Friday, Joel Kimetto, the Secretary General of the Kipsigis Community Clans, urged Gen Zs across the country to give President William Ruto the opportunity to address their concerns.
Kimetto emphasized that ongoing demonstrations, despite the president’s willingness to engage in dialogue, could hinder the nation’s progress.
In a telephone interview with the Star, Kimetto advised the youth to participate in dialogue as requested by the president to address the national issues affecting them.
He commended the youth in Kericho for holding peaceful protests, though there were some reports of looting and vandalism in the county.
Representing around 200 Kipsigis clans, Kimetto appealed to the Gen Zs in Kericho to cease further demonstrations and to share this message with their peers nationwide.
He expressed concern that the Gen Z demonstrations had taken a dangerous political turn, threatening both the nation’s development and security.
Kimetto also urged the police to prioritize the safety of demonstrators by refraining from using live bullets, advocating instead for the use of teargas.
“Life lost due to a trigger-happy police officer cannot be recovered,” Kimetto said.
