Catherine Wanjeri reveals that she was deliberately targeted in a recent shooting.

Mediamax journalist Catherine Wanjeri Kariuki has now revealed that she was deliberately targeted in a recent shooting incident. On Tuesday, while covering anti-government protests in Nakuru, she was shot three times. Wanjeri recounted that she had been struck by a teargas canister earlier but chose not to report it or escalate the situation.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Wanjeri expressed her belief that she was intentionally targeted, citing a previous incident where she was similarly targeted. She showed her colleagues the scar from the teargas canister, which is on the same leg where she was shot.

Wanjeri had left her home around 1:30 pm with the expectation of returning safely after covering the protests. However, she ended up in the hospital with stitches in her thigh after being shot four times, with three bullets remaining lodged in her leg.

The rubber bullets have since been removed, and doctors have confirmed that she is out of immediate danger. Wanjeri is uncertain about her recovery time and the potential long-term impact of the scars.

She shared that just seven minutes before the shooting, her mother had called to advise her to stay safe. Moments before the attack, Wanjeri was seen assisting a female police officer in a police van by providing her toothpaste to alleviate the effects of the teargas.

Currently recovering at Annex Hospital in Nakuru, Wanjeri remains hopeful that justice will be served.
