Activities ground to a halt along the Kanduyi-Malaba Highway as angry residents stormed Kimaeti police station, accusing officers of negligence. This followed the brutal murder of night security guard Changalwa Nabiswa by suspected criminals attempting to rob shops in Kimaeti market.
Robin Wanyonyi, a resident, criticized police for focusing on arresting alcohol brewers rather than ensuring community safety. The fatal attack on Nabiswa occurred just 50 meters from the police station, prompting residents to forcibly eject officers they accused of ignoring local security concerns.
“We’ve faced numerous security incidents here, but the deployed officers have consistently failed us,” Wanyonyi lamented, emphasizing their refusal to allow the officers to return.
“We demand new officers who will prioritize our safety over battling with brewers,” he asserted.
Elphas Okwachu, a boda boda rider, condemned the incident as he urged for swift investigations into Nabiswa’s killing.
“The security guard was innocent, just trying to earn a living for his family. We’re deeply troubled by the security lapses in this market,” Okwachu expressed.
The deceased’s body was taken to Bungoma County Referral mortuary, while the DCI launched a probe into the murder. MP Jack Wamboka also condemned the incident, calling for expedited investigations.
