Director of Criminal Investigation Mohamed Amin has clarified that the arrest of veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho was a case of mistaken identity.
Gaitho was detained on Wednesday morning at the Karen Police Station.
“We apologize to Gaitho. It was a case of mistaken identity,” Amin stated.
Amin explained that they were searching for a different individual who also goes by the name Gaitho.
Gaitho was forcefully arrested at Karen Police Station after being intercepted by a Subaru while leaving home with his son.
He drove to the Karen Police Station, where he was forcefully bundled into a car.
A video seen by the Star shows the journalist being shoved into a white Probox inside the station by individuals in civilian clothes while police looked on. The video was recorded by his son.
