Social media influencer Francis Gaitho announced he will report to the DCI Headquarters at Mazingira House on Wednesday. In a statement posted on X, Gaitho specified that he will arrive at 2 p.m.
“I will be presenting myself at DCI Headquarters, Mazingira House Kiambu Road at 2 p.m. today. Thank you all for your concern,” he said.
In response to a statement from the National Police Service, Gaitho mentioned he is consulting with his legal counsel regarding the next steps.
This announcement follows a clarification by the police that they had mistakenly arrested veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho, who shares the same name as the influencer. The police acknowledged the error, stating, “The National Police Service would like to clarify to the public that this morning, we arrested journalist Macharia Gaitho in a case of mistaken identity, intended for Francis Gaitho, who is under investigation.”
On Monday, Director of Criminal Investigations Amin Mohamed criticized Francis Gaitho for allegedly undermining their investigation into the Kware dump site murders. Gaitho had claimed that the DCI’s statements were misleading and had incorrectly identified the prime suspect. He later shared information and images of a person named Jairus Onkundi, claiming he was the suspect. Onkundi has since filed a complaint with the DCI seeking clearance in connection with the ongoing investigations.
