Andrew Tate, a self-proclaimed misogynist influencer, has been barred from leaving Romania while awaiting trial, following a Romanian court of appeal’s decision on Tuesday that overturned an earlier ruling.
Tate was arrested in late 2022 and indicted in mid-2023, along with his brother, Tristan, and two Romanian nationals. They face charges of human trafficking, rape, and forming a criminal gang to exploit women—allegations they deny.
Earlier this month, a court in Bucharest had ruled that the Tate brothers and the two other defendants could travel freely within the European Union until their trial. However, this decision was overturned by a court of appeal, which now requires the four men to remain in Romania until their trial.
Eugen Vidineac, the lead counsel for the Tate brothers, acknowledged the court’s decision, stating, “Tristan and Andrew Tate will fully comply with the Court’s decision as well as the obligations included in the judicial control, as they have done so far.”
Following the court’s initial permission to travel within the EU, Tate had playfully asked his followers on X (formerly Twitter) whether he should drive his Ferrari SF90 to Italy, Maserati MC20 to Cannes, or Ferrari 812 Competition to Paris.
Tate, who gained internet fame in recent years with millions of views on TikTok for his controversial views on male dominance and female submission, often showcased his lavish lifestyle.
