India and Oman have mobilized their maritime resources for a search and rescue operation following the capsizing of an oil tanker, the ‘Prestige Falcon,’ which was sailing under the Comoros flag. The incident occurred on July 15, about 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah, Duqm, with 16 crew members aboard—13 Indians and 3 Sri Lankans.
The Indian Navy has dispatched a warship and a P8I Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft to aid in the search for survivors. Despite ongoing efforts, no survivors have been found yet.
The search is being conducted in coordination with Omani authorities amid challenging weather conditions, including rough seas and strong winds. Oman has also deployed its own vessels and aircraft to assist in the mission. The Omani Maritime Security Centre has confirmed that the search and rescue operations are ongoing.
