US rapper Wiz Khalifa has been accused of illegal drug possession following his performance at a seaside festival in Romania. Authorities allege that Khalifa, who was headlining the “Beach, Please!” festival in Costinesti village along the Black Sea, was found in possession of over 18 grams of cannabis and was seen consuming it on stage in the form of a hand-rolled cigarette. In Romania, cannabis is classified as a “risk drug,” with possession potentially carrying a sentence of up to ten years in prison.
Videos circulating on social media depict Khalifa being escorted away from the venue by Romanian authorities. Although charged, Khalifa was not detained following questioning early on Sunday, according to a source familiar with the investigation. The case remains under investigation by Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors (DIICOT).
Khalifa, known for frequently referencing cannabis in his music, has been linked to legal cannabis ventures in the US, where celebrities like him, along with figures such as Snoop Dogg, Seth Rogen, and Mike Tyson, have supported or invested in the industry.
In a separate incident involving a US rapper and Romania’s music scene, Nicki Minaj recently cancelled her appearance at the Saga Festival in Bucharest due to safety concerns related to local protests against fiscal legislation changes.
