Attorney General Justin Muturi has announced plans to sue Standard Media for allegedly publishing false quotes about President William Ruto. On Thursday, Muturi criticized the Standard Newspaper for claiming that President Ruto does not heed his advice, asserting that the remarks were falsely attributed to him.
Muturi expressed his concerns, stating, “I am deeply troubled by an article published by The Standard Newspaper on July 11, 2024, that includes statements falsely attributed to me.” He emphasized his commitment to integrity and transparency, saying, “As a former lawmaker and former speaker of the National Assembly, I uphold the highest standards of integrity and transparency. The misquotations in the article mislead the Kenyan public and undermine these principles.”
The Attorney General indicated that he is pursuing legal action to compel The Standard to retract the statements. The controversial headline in question quoted Muturi as saying that he should not be blamed for misadvising the President.
The newspaper’s front page read, “In a bold step, Attorney General Justin Muturi has come out to say the President does not consult him on a number of key decisions, in spite of being the chief legal advisor on various issues, and that is why the government has been a butt of jokes in corridors of justice.”
Muturi firmly denied making these statements and is seeking a retraction from the publication.
