During a visit to Somaliland, Sir Mo Farah, a Save the Children ambassador and four-time Olympic gold medallist, witnessed the devastating impact of climate change on child malnutrition. In Gabiley, he met with mothers at a health center who shared their struggles to feed their families due to droughts and floods, leaving nearly seven million people in need of aid.
Farah also met mothers at a hospital who had traveled long distances with their malnourished children. He praised their resilience, describing their choices as “impossible.”
Somalia is grappling with extreme food insecurity caused by prolonged droughts and severe flooding, putting four million people and nearly two million children at risk of acute malnutrition.
Farah emphasized the crucial work of Save the Children, which has been operating in Somalia for over 70 years, providing essential health, nutrition, and education support. In 2023 alone, they assisted 4.7 million people, including over 2.47 million children.
