On Wednesday afternoon, an enraged mob stormed the Gachocho police station in Murang’a, overpowering the police and breaking into the cells. Reports indicate that the mob converged on the station after learning that a murder suspect, accused of killing his brother on Tuesday night, had been detained there.
For most of Wednesday morning, the mob, consisting of women, men, and children, clashed with the police, demanding that the suspect be handed over to them. The police, deployed to contain the situation, used tear gas and rubber bullets. However, they eventually ran out of tear gas after a prolonged confrontation.
Ultimately, the mob overwhelmed the police, hurling stones at their land cruisers before breaking into the cells, dragging out the suspect, and beating him to death. The suspect, who was killed, had allegedly conspired with another brother to murder their sibling.
