Olympic silver medalist Brigid Kosgei will miss the Paris 2024 Olympic Games due to an injury.
The National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) announced that Sharon Lokedi will replace Kosgei.
The decision was made following a regular monitoring session where Kosgei reported an injury concern to the technical team, as stated by NOC-K.
“The Kenya Marathon team heading to the Olympic Games in Paris has been training for slightly over two months, receiving financial and technical support.
After a review by the medical team led by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ondiege, it was determined that Kosgei would not be participating in her second Olympics.
As a result, Sharon Lokedi, previously named to the reserve team, will join defending champion Peres Jepchirchir and Hellen Obiri to represent Kenya in Paris.
The National Olympics Committee expressed gratitude to Brigid for her dedication and training efforts under Team Kenya and pledged continued support throughout the season.
Kosgei’s impressive career includes victories in the 2018 and 2019 Chicago Marathons, the 2019 and 2020 London Marathons, and the 2021 Tokyo Marathon.
