Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi has confirmed that he has fallen out with his former close ally, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Wamumbi stated on Sunday that while it is true they are no longer on good terms, their disagreement is not due to the closure of bars in Nyeri County.
“There is indeed a rift between the Deputy President and me. However, it is not related to the closed bars in Karatina town, which have left the town lifeless for four months,” Wamumbi said.
The MP suggested that a more significant issue has caused their fallout and called on Gachagua to be truthful about the matter.
“It goes beyond that. He should reveal the truth, and nothing but the truth. I will also be telling my side, and the people of Mathira will decide whom to believe,” Wamumbi added.
His comments come a day after Gachagua criticized certain leaders, including those from the Ministry of Interior, for opposing his efforts to eradicate the illicit brew problem in the Mt. Kenya region. Gachagua claimed that those resisting the initiative are damaging President Ruto’s legacy, especially after progress had been made.
Gachagua was instrumental in Wamumbi’s election as Mathira MP in 2022, as he was chosen by Ruto as his running mate. The Deputy President had encouraged the people of Mathira to support Wamumbi, who previously served as a Member of the County Assembly in Nyeri.
