A 60-year-old man was killed by a mob after allegedly stabbing his wife to death in Nyalula village, Siaya County. Bernard Odweso reportedly attacked and fatally hacked his 55-year-old wife, Pamela Anyango, on Sunday afternoon following a disagreement over Ksh. 30.
Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo stated that Samuel Ouma, a relative of the deceased, reported the incident at Siaya Police Station. Officers from the station, led by the OCS, promptly visited the scene. They established that Odweso, while at home with his wife and their 22-year-old daughter, Vida Odweso, had a disagreement over Ksh. 30 intended for a church offering. Odweso was suspected of taking the money from the house, leading to a violent altercation in which he stabbed his wife multiple times, killing her on the spot, while their daughter managed to escape.
The couple’s 24-year-old son, Dickens Odweso, responded to the commotion and found his father armed with an iron rod and a knife outside the home. Odweso attacked his son, stabbing him in the neck and left leg.
Upon learning of the incident, neighbors and members of the public cornered Odweso and subjected him to mob justice, inflicting multiple head injuries. He was rushed to Siaya County Referral Hospital in critical condition and was confirmed dead on arrival.
Kimaiyo stated that both crime scenes have been processed, and Anyango’s body has been moved to Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation pending autopsy.
