Faith Kipyegon shatters her own 1500m world record at the Paris Diamond League.

World 1500m and Mile record holder Faith Kipyegon has broken her own World Record in the 1500m at the Paris Diamond League.

Kipyegon set the new record with a time of 3:49:04 at Stade Charléty, assisted by two pacemakers. She surpassed her previous record by 0.07 seconds, which she set in Florence in June 2023.

Australian Jessica Hull secured second place with the fifth fastest 1500m time in history, clocking 3:50:83.

The news was warmly received in Kenya, with Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen praising her remarkable performance.

“Unstoppable! What an incredible run! Congratulations, Faith Kipyegon, on your stunning performance at the Paris Diamond League. By breaking your previous World Record in the women’s 1500m race with a phenomenal time of 3:49.04, you have flown Kenya’s flag high, and we are immensely proud of you. Your grit and talent continue to inspire us all,” he said.

Raila Odinga said: “Faith Kipyegon, your great feat of breaking your own Women’s 1500m world record in Paris is truly motivating. Your dedication and passion power the ambitions of Kenya’s athletes and youth. Keep running and shining!”

Former Energy CS Charles Keter also congratulated Kipyegon on her outstanding performance.

“Congratulations for continuously inspiring the next generation of athletes to achieve and even exceed their dreams! Kenya is proud of you,” he said.

Kipyegon is also the holder of the women’s mile World Record, set during the Monaco Diamond League in 2023, where she clocked 4:07.64, breaking Ethiopia’s Sifan Hassan’s four-year-old record of 4:12.33.

Kipyegon, 30, is also a former world record holder for the 5000 metres. She is a double Olympic 1500m champion and will return to Paris for the Olympic Games later this year, where she is one of the hot favourites.
