Twelve youths are currently in police custody after being arrested for attempting to attack Bondo Police Station during unsuccessful anti-government protests on Thursday.
Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo reported that the youths began gathering in Bondo town around noon and attempted to barricade the roads.
Mr. Kimaiyo stated that at approximately 2 pm, a small group of protesters started attacking the station by throwing stones. This prompted an enhanced anti-riot team, led by himself, to respond and successfully drive the violent protesters out of the town.
He added that during the incident, they arrested 12 individuals who were attacking the station with stones and other projectiles.
The county police chief also mentioned that the anti-riot team remained vigilant, continuing to pacify the town and clear out small pockets of violent protesters until 9:30 pm when they concluded the operation.
He noted that no injuries were reported on either side and that the youths will be arraigned in court on Friday.
