Lawrence Njuguna, widely known as DJ Fatxo, recently discussed the death of Jeff Mwathi, over a year after the incident first implicated him. In an interview with Obinna TV, the 28-year-old Mugithi singer clarified that no charges were ever filed in connection to Jeff Mwathi’s mysterious death. He explained that after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducted their investigation, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) reviewed the case and determined there was insufficient evidence to proceed.
“There was no case. After the DCI completed their investigation, they submitted their findings to the DPP for further review. The DPP subsequently concluded that there was no basis for charging anyone. The process involves building a case at the DPP’s office, which then goes to court to determine if charges should be filed,” DJ Fatxo explained.
He continued, “No one was charged because the allegations against me were untrue. I later learned that when a case isn’t closed at the police station, it goes to court where a judge hears from all government witnesses, including the DCI and myself, who was with Jeff throughout that day, as well as anyone else who had relevant information. The judge ultimately decides whether to close the case and declare innocence.”
DJ Fatxo also emphasized that he wasn’t at home when Jeff passed away and expressed deep sadness over losing a close friend. “He was a dear friend. Inviting someone into my home after a night out shows how much I valued him. People rushed to judge me harshly without considering my grief. I lost a friend, but people spoke without understanding. God knows the truth,” he shared.
Jeff Mwathi tragically died on February 22, 2023, after falling from the 12th floor of Redwood Apartments in Kasarani, where DJ Fatxo resided at the time.
