Police arrest more suspects in Chieni supermarket looting

Police from Nyeri and Laikipia counties have apprehended four additional individuals suspected of breaking into Chieni supermarkets in Nanyuki and Nyeri during protests, where they stole various goods and set the supermarkets on fire.

Detectives reported recovering some stolen items during the arrests, including washing machines, refrigerators, water dispensers, bicycles, kitchenware, food items, and clothing.

In Nanyuki, a 24-year-old man was arrested at a rental house with a stolen fridge, water dispenser, coffee cups, teaspoons, hotpot dishes, and plates. His image had been captured in circulated phone recordings of the looting.

In another house near Kengeles club in Nanyuki, a 30-year-old man was found with 22 pairs of khaki trousers, nine T-shirts, 24 undergarments (boxers), and sandals, all stolen during the demonstrations.

On the outskirts of the town, a 35-year-old man was arrested with a stolen junior ride bike. Additionally, a 41-year-old man was found with six vacuum flasks, a shopping trolley, a fridge, and several cups.

Police stated that several other suspects have been arrested, and more stolen items have been recovered. They will continue investigating to apprehend other identifiable individuals captured on video igniting the fires and stealing goods.
