The Russian and Ukrainian governments have issued travel advisories to their citizens in Kenya, urging them to exercise caution amid ongoing anti-government protests in Nairobi and various parts of the country. In separate security alerts, Russia and Ukraine urged their citizens to avoid visiting Nairobi City Centre on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
“In connection with the possible holding of protest actions in the city of Nairobi on July 2, 2024, we advise you, if possible, to refrain from visiting the central part of the city and carefully monitor information from Kenyan law enforcement agencies,” stated the Ukrainian Embassy. Similarly, the Russian Embassy in Kenya warned: “To the attention of Russian citizens located in Kenya: There is currently an increased risk of mass demonstrations in Nairobi and other cities in Kenya on July 2, 2024. It is recommended not to visit the central area of Nairobi. Please continue to take precautions.”
Activists and youth in Kenya have vowed to intensify their campaigns against President Ruto, which began two weeks ago. They have declared both Tuesday and Thursday as public holidays for the “Occupy Everywhere” movement, calling on all Kenyans to stage sit-down protests on major roads across the country on those days.
