President William Ruto has expressed his willingness to engage with Kenyan youth on any platform they prefer, including X Spaces. During an exclusive interview with digital journalists at State House on Sunday evening, Ruto was asked if he would join X Spaces to interact with discontented youth, particularly those from Generation Z.
“In the next week, we must have this conversation in the space you choose. I’m assigning one of you to set up the space, perhaps on Thursday or Friday. Why not? I will be there,” Ruto stated. He added that the youth could either select a representative to lead the discussion or decide on an alternative way to engage him if they prefer a leaderless approach.
“When I proposed the multi-sectoral approach, I envisioned young people organizing and participating. I wanted the entire setup to involve young people: civil society, religious organizations, and professional bodies,” Ruto elaborated.
However, he noted the difficulty he has faced in determining whom to engage with. “Whether it’s Thursday, Friday… mkipangana mimi niko,” Ruto asserted.
The president has called for dialogue with the protesting youth to address critical national issues, including unemployment and the high cost of living. Despite some youth calling for his resignation, Ruto reminded them of the constitutional processes for removing a sitting president, either by waiting for the next election or following the prescribed procedures.
