Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua revealed that prior to the 2022 general elections, his two sons advised him to withdraw his support for President William Ruto’s presidential candidacy. Speaking in Bomet on Sunday, Gachagua explained that their concerns stemmed from the challenges he faced for backing Ruto against the wishes of the incumbent president.
“When we supported President William Ruto’s bid, we encountered numerous challenges and opposition from the government in power,” Gachagua recounted. “My sons witnessed these difficulties and feared they could jeopardize our family and assets.”
He mentioned that his sons, along with their mother Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, convened a meeting to express their concerns about the potential harm to their family due to his political stance.
“At that meeting, my sons expressed their fears that my political alignment could harm our family and lead to loss of property,” Gachagua continued. “I presented my arguments in favor of supporting Ruto, and with the support of my wife, we took a vote. The decision was evenly split, but as the head of the household, I made the final call that we stand with President William Ruto.”
Gachagua shared these reflections after attending a church service at Deliverance Church International in Kaplong, Bomet County.
