Kenyan entertainer Eddie Butita responded to criticism from Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) regarding his recent interview with President William Ruto. The backlash stemmed from a photo that surfaced showing Butita alongside other journalists during the interview setup with the President, shortly after Ruto’s widely discussed interview with Linus Kaikai, Eric Latiff, and Joe Ageyo.
Taking to Twitter to address the issue, Butita stated:
“Regarding the recent reactions, let me clarify. This was a standard interview like any other. These are journalists representing various digital media platforms. Is there an issue? None! You can’t undermine young people under the guise of advocating for them—it’s contradictory. SPM BUZZ, Tuko, Kenyans, Uliza Link, among others, were all present. I see no problem with digital media outlets conducting interviews just like mainstream channels.”
The interview took place a few weeks after Butita accompanied President Ruto and his team on a trip to the US.
Reactions to the photos varied:
@Mutuabrian_M: “The more you explain, the more you spoil everything, my friend.”
@MwendiaJnr: “Just focus on your work. No matter how much you explain, you can’t turn a hater into a friend.”
@Joshtety: “Please share their channels so we can follow them, and their TikToks and social media accounts. We need to support them as we’ve supported you.”
@cleophasmatoke2: “I don’t see any issue with other young people carving out their space. They sacrificed their time to create content for their audience. Let them be! We shouldn’t be fighting imaginary enemies unless we want to create divisions in our country.”
