Governor Johnson Sakaja’s administration has taken steps to restore order following a meeting with boda boda operators in Nairobi.
The meeting, chaired by Security and Compliance Chief Officer Tony Kimani on Thursday, aimed to address concerns and establish regulations for the business in the CBD.
“Today we met to discuss the best way forward and enhance efficiency in the CBD. This demonstrates Sakaja’s unwavering determination to bring order to the boda boda sector within the Central Business District (CBD) and the entire city,” Kimani said.
The meeting outlined a series of new regulations to improve safety and streamline operations.
It was agreed that CBD boda boda operators must wear branded reflectors showing their Sacco’s name and have individual personal numbers for easy identification. This will help distinguish legitimate members among riders, security marshals, and motorbike users.
These measures aim to curb insecurity and eliminate criminals from the CBD.
The boda boda saccos expressed gratitude to Governor Sakaja’s leadership for the support provided to operate within the CBD. They pledged to cooperate with the City Authority to ensure the smooth running of the business.
This move by the Nairobi City County administration is a significant step towards addressing the challenges associated with boda bodas in urban areas, aiming to improve public safety and create a more orderly flow of traffic within the city.
